The following letter is from Lama Tharchin Rinpoche
******************************************************
My dear dharma friends,
I want to tell everyone about a very special opportunity we have this Losar
Retreat at Pema Osel Ling. We are very fortunate to have Loppon Jigme Rinpoche
join us for Gutor practice, Tibetan New Year bestowing the long life and wealth
empowerments, and consecrating the Tibetan treasure vases for the first three
days of the new year.
Loppon Jigme Rinpoche is the son of Lama Sherab Rinpoche who was my uncle and
also one of my root lamas. I studied under Lama Sherab for nearly thirty years
in Tibet and India. Lama Sherab had the great honor of representing His Holiness
Dudjom Rinpoche at his main monastery in Tibet called Zangdok Palri, Lama Ling
Rigdzin Gatsal. Also in India, Lama Sherab represented His Holiness and was
in charge of his center in Orissa named Duddul Rabten Ling.
Lama Sherab Rinpoche and his Sang-yum Pema Lhatso conceived Loppon Jigme in 1963
when we were in Simla, India, doing road work and living in tents. At that time,
many neighbors dreamt that Guru Rinpoche himself came to Lama Sherab and Pema
Lhatso's tent. Lama Sherab and Pema Lhatso themselves had special and auspicious
dreams when Jigme was conceived. In 1964, our family moved to Orissa where Dudjom
Rinpoche had established a Dharma center and Jigme was born there. Both parents
had visions and special dreams at his birth, and he was born accompanied by
many auspicious signs. Jigme was an unusually compassionate and loving child.
Even while the other school children were killing ants, he would cry and scream
for them to stop. He never ate meat from the time he was a young child, feeling
great compassion for the animals. He was educated in English, Hindi, and Tibetan
at the local Tibetan school in Orissa. After this, he attended college at the
highly respected Varanasi Sanskrit University and received his Vajra Acharya
degree. As soon as he was finished with college, Loppon Jigme went to Nepal to
study under Chatral Rinpoche. He completed a six-year retreat under Chatral
Rinpoche's guidance at his retreat center in Helambu in the mountains of Nepal.
After completing retreat, Chatral Rinpoche enthroned Loppon Jigme as Vajra Master
(Lopon) in his own monastery at Yanglesho in Nepal. Loppon Jigme is considered
to be Chatral Rinpoche's successor. He is very well educated and a highly realized
Dharma practitioner. He is also a lineage holder of the Repkong yogis, my family
lineage. He is holder of the Nyingma doctrine and is a great Nyingma master.
These days he is staying in Tacoma, Washington with his family.
This Losar we have the great fortune and opportunity for Loppon Jigme to join
us at Pema Osel Ling. I highly recommend and request that all our sangha participate
in this retreat, as much as possible, and receive the benefit of this good fortune.
Your spiritual friend,
Lama Tharchin
