Yeshe Tsogyal Mandarava

The Great Dakinis are Bringing Their Blessings to Pema Osel Ling

We would like to share with you Lama Sonam Rinpoche's words about a new addition to our shrine room, two Great Dakini statues.

"Right now we live in a time of escalating violence and conflict across the world. This particular moment in time calls for the energy of these female deities to pacify and subdue conflict.

"The presence of life-size statues of the great Dakinis Yeshe Tsogyal and Mandarava at Pema Osel Ling will serve as powerful forces for peace and healing. Bringing these statues to Pema Osel Ling will benefit not only our country but the entire world."

Lama Sonam Rinpoche visited the shop of Brahma Shakti Moorti Bhandar in Jaipur, India, last November, where he arranged for the carving of the 7-foot, white marble great dakini statues, originally designed by Dungse Thinley Norbu Rinpoche. During the same visit, he oversaw the final details of the Arhat statues, which will complete the Five Taras and 23 Arhat Statue Project.

The Yeshe Tsogyal and Mandarava statues will be placed on either side of Guru Rinpoche's throne.

Yeshe Tsogyal - Transforming Aggression Through Boundless Compassion

Yeshe Tsogyal’s wisdom shows the power of meeting violence with compassion. On her way to Nepal, she encountered seven thieves intent on robbing her. Instead of reacting with fear or resistance, she visualized them as enlightened deities and offered all her possessions as a mandala offering. As she made this offering, she sang a teaching on transforming the five poisons into the five wisdoms. Moved by her generosity and realization, the thieves were filled with faith and ultimately liberated from samsara. Yeshe Tsogyal reminds us that compassionate wisdom can transform even aggression into the path of peace and awakening.

Mandarava - Purifying Conflict Through Indestructible Presence

Mandarava’s story reveals how unwavering devotion in the face of violence can turn ignorance into realization. A princess of India, she possessed deep faith and a natural brilliance from an early age. When she chose to follow Guru Rinpoche on the spiritual path, her father, seized by fear and anger, imprisoned her in a pit and ordered Guru Rinpoche burned alive. From the flames, a lotus and lake arose, and Guru Rinpoche and Mandarava were unharmed. The king’s delusion was burned away and replaced by devotion. At his request, Mandarava and Guru Rinpoche spread the Dharma throughout the land, pacifying conflict and healing division. Her statue at Pema Osel Ling will create conditions for peace, longevity, and balance — her presence embodying the union of compassion and indestructible wisdom.

This particular moment in time calls for the energy of these female deities to pacify and subdue conflict. Bringing these exquisite statues to Pema Osel Ling will benefit not only our country but the entire world by helping to liberate violence into wisdom, transform conflict into understanding, and transmute the poisons of our time into forces for healing and peace.
