Putri Rekphung

We invite you to join us at Pema Osel Ling for our annual Losar Retreat.

This Year, in addition to our traditional wrathful Vajrakilaya Gutor practice, we will be accumulating 100,000 supplications to the wisdom protector Nojin Shenpa Marnak. Please see Dudjom Yangsi Rinpoche's recent letter to our sangha about the importance of the Shenpa prayers and his prayer that our aspirations are accomplished through this practice that Lama Tharchin Rinpoche began many years ago to benefit all beings and in particular, for the dharma activity of the West, including Pema Osel Ling.

Empowement: Putri Rekphung Vajrakilaya

Vajrakilaya is a powerful purification ritual traditionally done in the final days of the outgoing Tibetan year to cleanse and pacify all accumulated negativities, defilements and obstacles, in order that we start the New Year of the Fire Bird afresh. We will do His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche's Putri Rekphung - The Razor that Destroys at a Touch Vajrakilaya practice, beginning with a Putri Rekphung Vajrakilaya Empowerment given by Tulku Thadral Rinpoche on February 13th. Lama Sonam Rinpoche has this to say regarding this important practice in the Dudjom Tersar:

"This Putri Rekphung Vajrakilaya practice from HH Dudjom Rinpoche's Mind Treasure is the most precious, and he himself said that it is the wisdom heart of Guru Rinpoche, Vimalamitra, and Balmo Shilamenju combined. Therefore, Rinpoche kept this practice secret for 11 years. This is the most powerful and direct lineage in our generation, that came from Yeshe Tsogyal to Dudjom Rinpoche, and then to us."
            -Lama Sonam Rinpoche

This auspicious occasion, on the anniversary of the Omniscient Longchenpa, will initiate our annual Gutor Losar Retreat. The empowerment will be followed by Dechö ceremonies for Longchenpa that evening, with Ladrub Thigle Gyachen practice from the Longchen Nyingthik. This text will be available for use by participants in the shrine, and is available for download here.

We will also be led in practice by Tulku Jigme Wangdrak Rinpoche, Tulku Jamyang Rinpoche, Lama Gyaltsen Rinpoche, and Lama Sonam Rinpoche.  The practice culminates in the Gutor ritual, this year on Saturday, February 25th, where the wrathful torma is cast out, paving the way for a New Year, where all positive circumstances increase like the waxing moon. Relative circumstances such as longevity, merit, glories, joy and family lineage are increased. And on the path, meditation qualities, experience, wisdom and fruition of practice are accomplished.” -Lama Tharchin Rinpoche

At this time more than ever, when the world is increasingly beset by the strife, disease, war, famine and natural disasters of this degenerate age, Lama Sonam Rinpoche requests the sangha to practice with the aspiration:

"...to bring balance to the outer and inner elements, to foster kindness and compassion in the minds of the leaders of the world, to pray for the long lives of those who possess these precious qualities, and that all those who practice may swiftly attain enlightenment without obstacle for the benefit of all sentient beings.

This is the most powerful and direct lineage in our generation, that came from Yeshe Tsogyal to Dudjom Rinpoche, and then to us. Because of the compassion, wisdom, and omniscience of HH Dudjom Rinpoche, the aspiration of HH Dungse Rinpoche, the great kindness of Lama Tharchin Rinpoche, and the dedication of our sponsors, members, and sangha, we have the best opportunity to do practice together."
            -Lama Sonam Rinpoche

Lama Sonam Rinpoche encourages everyone to join us, but asks all those whose circumstances do not allow them to attend to connect with the blessings of these practices by making offerings with devotion, from the heart. Our annual Losar Retreat carries with it an incredible amount of auspicious activity, from elaborate ritual practice, extensive torma and zorchen offerings, the Gutor day bonfire for the pacification and annihilation of obstacles accumulated from the previous year, riwo sang chod smoke offering, the raising of prayer flags and much more. Make offerings for the Gutor and Losar rituals, Vajrakilaya empowerment, and 2017 Prayer Flags.

Please join us for as much of this practice retreat as your schedule allows. All levels of attendance and participation are highly encouraged.
